The goal of tree testing

Tree testing is about evaluating findability: how easy it is for users to find the content or feature they are looking for.

By conducting a tree test, you can learn about the effectiveness of your

  • grouping and
  • labelling.

However, you won’t find out how participants would group and label content — the right tool for that is card sorting.
